Twilight (a poem)
I would like to share with you a poem I wrote a couple of years ago whilst sitting on the shore of the Atlantic ocean here in the west country in Britain.
This part of Britain was subject to many Viking raids in the tenth century, and as I sat gazing out to sea watching the sun set, the words to this poem began to form in my mind. (The sails of jade represent the waves, and the hair of gold and eyes of flame symbolise the reflection of the sun in the water, giving the illusion of a Viking ship and its men). I hope you enjoy it!
Twilight
I sat by the edge of the sea;
It was dusk,
Light faded slowly.
When –
Out of the mist
Appeared before me
Not too fast,
But rather gradually –
A Viking ship in all its glory
With sails of jade, its men a-fury.
Atop it soared the ocean`s surf,
Battling the waves for all its worth.
With hair of gold and eyes aflame
They stared at me, (I did the same).
And as I gazed
They slipped from view;
First one by one
Then, two
By two.
I sat by the edge of the sea,
The vision gone
From my
Reverie.
